Ok , ok I know I did this backwards, I should have bought
the highpoint prior to getting the glock, but I am still unique (just like
everyone else). I got this because a friend of mine had one. Dumb reason I
know, but had some extra cash burning a hole in my pocket and the $150 asking
price was too good to pass up. I know many will disagree with me, but
highpoints are not bad guns, if you can get past some inherent issues and a
crudeness in construction. First they are made of pot metal, they are very top
heavy, not easy to field strip (requires a hammer and punch) the mags only hold
8 rounds, the trigger is rough but not too heavy, and the grip is not that comfy.
Still they work, and keep working. They also have a great warrantee (if it
breaks they will fix or replace it and send you an extra mag for your troubles)
I shot the gun some, and then when my dad mentioned that they’d had a break-in
at home while they were there. They were very lucky the intruder was not armed,
as they were still pacifists (mostly my mother) he was worried that the guy
would come back, and asked to borrow a weapon. I instead gave him the highpoint,
an extra mag, and a box of ammo, then I took it and him to a range and taught
him to shoot and load it. I am not sure my mother knows it is in her house, but
dad and I both feel better that it is. (Though I guess she could find out now
that I have shared it with the world…)
THE GOOD:
I like cheap guns they are great gifts, and tradable commodities.
high point has a fixed barrel and as such is quite accurate.
THE BAD:
The highpoint is a fine “little” gun in many ways, it is not
a kinber or an m&p, and it never will be, so plan to be un-excited and you
will like it.
FINAL THOUGHTS:
Break in’s put life
into perspective and can quickly change one’s outlook on life, my dad is still
not a “shooter” but he is now a “gun owner”, it’s a start.
