The bushmaster orc (5.56)
The optics ready carbine is a civilian car15 and it is the blandest
boring incarceration of the ar15 you can buy, mine came with a Burris full
field 3-9 scope, and nothing else. Still it was a good price, and I like a
project. The first thing I did was install a CAA stock (I like the angle) and a
13 inch aluminum free float fluted and knurled tube hand guard. I don’t like
the milspec pistol grip, but I didn’t have much money to mod the gun so I filed
off the bump in the middle and stippled it to make it stickier. All in all it
shoots fine and is very reliable, but it is not that accurate in general (4moa)
but it is fine, but it will probably not stay forever.
THE GOOD:
It works great, no hiccups in the 500 I have put through it.
I love the tube hand guard, it does mean that I have no back
up irons, but I still love the feel.
M4 feed ramps are a very good thing.
THE BAD
The full field scope is fine for midrange targets but would
make both long and short shots difficult.
It is a “combat” trigger and as such it sucks.
FINAL THOUGHTS:
This gun is only good in the 50-200 yard ranges, it works
great there but that does make it rather impractical, I would like to put a vortex
strike fire on it.
